Have you ever decided to do something and then wonder why exactly you decided to do it? Some times the thought of this new adventure gets my stomach in knots and my brain on overdrive and overload. I wonder what have I gotten myself into and what are we going to do if NO ONE SHOWS UP???
And then I knock myself back to the core of who we are as REACH and why we are doing what we are doing. Since Tour of Hope started it has been that we truly have relied on ourselves...just the two of us. If no one else came, we could still do what we had planned. When others got involved it was a bonus. That is where this year is different...WE NEED YOU!
This year is about community...we are shooting for the stars because children are worth every minute of it! And as a community, we have to find a new normal. Child abuse is fueled by silence...broken through awareness and action.
We have a HUGE goal financially to raise $14,000 when the highest to date we have done is just under $8,000. And we can't realistically walk 14 hours a day...no breaks, no relief, and by ourselves. We have had many conversations between the two of us about what happens if no one comes? We realized very quickly a few years ago that there is a reason the breast cancer walks are 20 miles a day...the days we were at or around 20 miles we were good, but when we had multiple days in a row over 20 miles is when knees hurt, blisters started, etc. There is a fine line. And the point of R.E.A.C.H. is not to test our bodies to the very end of our limits...it is to raise awareness and funds for child abuse. But THAT takes the community.
So here we go...we are putting our faith in God, our trust in each other, and asking you to come...make a difference. Don't just hear the ask and say oh that's nice what they are doing. Be a part of it! Be the hope in a child's future! We can do this...WE CAN.
